Happy 2017!
Last night, in one of those “it’s new year’s eve, time to make a resolution/what did I just drink?” moments, I decided to do 365 days of doodles, starting January 1.
I am not a good or fast illustrator, and have the dubious honor of starting the Club Hands Club.
(anyone can join! just draw all hands in awkward box style!)
But I was inspired by other artists like @anniegalvin and @orliegrams who just completed a year of doodles, and it seems like a really solid way for me to improve my drawing skills.
My ego immediately kicked into overdrive.
What if they’re awful, and everyone hates them?
Worse, what if they ignore them?
You should come up with a better hashtag, I mean... doodle?
Why not art?
Or something with the word creativity?
Why not masterpiece?
Yeah, you should create masterpieces.
Every day.
You WILL create the most amazing art every day.
Oh my god, everyone is going to love you.
Unless you fail, which you might, because, you know, it’s every day.
Also, I don’t mean to be a bitch or anything, but you should really write and exercise every day too...
CALM THE F*CK DOWN EGO!
It’s just a doodle.
I am terrified. But this is how I know it’s a good idea.
So please enjoy my first offering.
Doodle 1/365.

This was one of my favorite street art murals in San Francisco, and I recently discovered that it has been completely painted over. I love the vibrant colors and I'm grateful to have these photos! Featuring a bunny, fish, a giant faucet and a sailboat riding on the waves, created by Meagan Spendlove.
This mural was located at Judah and 25th Ave, in the Sunset District, at Mr. Rooter Plumbing. There was also a sign for Lipton Tea in the window. I wonder what the next incarnation will be?

Binx is a graphic illustrator from Chicago currently living in Los Angeles. She has been drawing since she was two years old, and continues to expand her imagination through her work. Heavily influenced by colors, cartoons and video games, she wants others to see the world through her eyes. She has an illustration degree from Columbia College Chicago.
She is featured in the October 2014 issue:
Source of inspiration: Life, dreams and love.
Three adjectives that describe your art: Cute, colorful, swirly.
Favorite creative tools: Mircon inking pens and watercolor.
Favorite toy (now or as a kid): Sega Genesis.
Favorite creative gig: Anything that lets me create endless swirls and use lots of colors!
Dog or Cat? Cats!
What music are you listening to right now? Childish Gambino, Jhene Aiko, Odesza.
If you could be any character in fiction, whom would you be and why? Sailor Moon. She fights for love and justice, has an amazing team of sailor scouts that support her and a talking cat!
What's the strangest thing you've ever seen? I've seen a lot of strange things just for the fact I tend to surround myself with strange people and environments.
Favorite mythical creatures: Centaurs and Unicorns.
Pin-back button story: Ever since childhood I've been obsessed with buttons and wear a lot of them! I've worn and lost a lot of buttons over time, but my current favorite one is my "Love" button. I definitely think buttons can help save the world! Not only do they encourage self-expression, they also can create a connection with others who relate to the content of a button.
Additional information/Special announcements: I'm currently working on some freelance projects and creating stickers and designs to incorporate with my graffiti work. Hoping to make some t-shirt designs soon!

K. F. Anderson is a visual storyteller from Chicago, IL. He is best known for illustrating the children's book series “Toos the Cat,” but he began by writing and drawing his own comics. In 2012 he studied the art of animation at Animation Mentor where he developed his skills in the fundamentals of that art form.
While drawing inspiration from other artists, he studies psychology, dreams, and nature to fuel his creativity and give a natural element to his work. Each piece explores deeper concepts that lie within the order of the universe. With every project Anderson aims to inspire innovation in all who view his art. He believes the key to positive growth in human beings worldwide lies in our ability to share with one another and to respond to our innate creativity.
He is featured in the August 2014 issue:
Source of inspiration: Mathematics. The shapes and numbers behind the Fibonacci spiral, anything Pythagoras, mainly geometry.
Three adjectives that describe your art: Surreal, wondrous, alive.
Favorite creative tool: My dreams.
Favorite snack: Mixed nuts.
Favorite toy (now or as a kid): Super Nintendo. I like video games in general though.
Favorite creative gig: Anything where I'm able to tell a story with the work.
Dog or Cat? Both are cool.
What music are you listening to right now? Rochelle Jordan.
If you could be any character in fiction, whom would you be and why? Professor X. He runs a school where he teaches good values and brings outcasts into a community where they are not only accepted but learn to accept and help others. He teaches them an intrinsic self worth that they never thought possible in their lives before he found them. He's Martin Luther King if he were a telepath.
What's the strangest thing you've ever seen? Life is pretty strange in general in my experience.
Favorite mythical creature: The rainbow serpent.
Pin-back button story: The coolest thing about buttons to me is that they're a representation of our beliefs, and our beliefs drive everything that we do in our lives. If I see someone walking down the street wearing 'the 1' on their chest, I know that this is a person who believes in love and oneness to the point where they won't leave their house without reminding themselves that this is what really matters in life.
Additional information/Special announcements: Go to my website, http://artofkfa.com and sign up for the mailing list. I'll have some exciting new announcements in the coming months that will include an opportunity to win art prints from me.

Abby Diamond is a freelance illustrator and visual artist, living and working in Pittsburgh PA. She uses ink and paints, and a variety of traditional mediums to create bright, colorful creatures, and whimsical beasts. She draws constantly, and while paying close attention to details, she loves to splash around and experiment with her work.
After graduating in 2012 with a BFA in Studio Art, she threw herself into creating art full-time. Album artwork, tattoo designs, children's books and card games are just a few of things she likes to illustrate. Her favorite part about visual art is that it’s both her career and her hobby, and it never gets old. She loves environmental science and subjects of biology, and is always looking for ways to expand. She also spends a lot of time writing, swing dancing, and hiking with her dog.
Abby is featured in the May 2014 issue:
Source of inspiration: The natural world, backyard wildlife, early English illustrators Beatrix Potter and JJ Audubon.
Three adjectives that describe your art: Bright, splashy, whimsical.
Favorite creative tool: Higgins Black Magic ink.
Favorite snack: Vanilla-almond granola.
Favorite toy (now or as a kid): I had a box of two dozen plastic horses when I was a kid, and used to pass hours in the backyard playing with them.
Favorite creative gig: I absolutely love doing album artwork commissions for bands!
Dog or Cat? Dogs. Dogs.
What music are you listening to right now? Zoe Keating, Chris Thile and Yo-Yo Ma albums. I've been on a huge strings music binge lately.
If you could be any character in fiction, whom would you be and why? Lyra, from the trilogy His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. Not only does Lyra have some incredible adventures in a rich an beautiful universe, her character goes through some remarkable changes as well-- from a self-centered, lying child to an honest, cunning young woman.
The strangest thing I've ever seen: The way dogs behave around snakes. If you ever get the opportunity to observe this, it's absolutely bizarre. It seems like snakes (sometimes even their scent) make dogs act possessed.
Favorite mythical creature: The Barghest, or Grim, or Moddy Dhoo, the great black omen-dogs that roam the night countrysides of Ireland, Scotland, and England. It's my strong wish to see one of these dogs someday.
Pin-back button story: I think the best image of what a pinback button is all about, for me personally, comes from the Disney-Pixar movie UP. The "Ellie Badge" is a symbol of true love for the things that mean the most to a person; the things worth displaying proudly on one's sleeve for the world to see, but in a small, humble way.

Joe Feliciano was born and raised in New Jersey, and currently lives on the outskirts of Chicago. He can be found spending most of his time drawing, day dreaming, traveling, camping, bird watching, and enjoying the outdoors. His belief that everything has character, with a story to tell, is conveyed in every piece he illustrates.
Joe is featured in the April 2014 issue:
Source of inspiration: Wow! Way too much to list individually. Mainly nature, my family, my amazing wife, friends, and anyone who's created something beautiful with pencils, paint, and everything in between.
Three adjectives that describe your art: hmm...Fuzzy, Feathery, Scaly?
Favorite creative tool: My sketchbook.
Favorite snack: Gummy Bears all the way!
Favorite toy (now or as a kid): I had this super tiny little rubber porcupine as a kid. I called him Moley and took him everywhere. I still have him. He lives in the glove compartment of my car now.
Favorite creative gig: The one that let's me travel the country, hike, camp, draw and paint all day. (hasn't happened yet...but when it does, it'll be my favorite GUARANTEED!)
Dog or Cat? Right now it's 2 cats, 1 tortoise, 2 turtles and a really grumpy parakeet.
What music are you listening to right now? "La Murga" by Willie Colón and Héctor Lavoe
If you could be any character in fiction, whom would you be and why? Batman! because..he's BATMAN!
Favorite mythical creature: The Phoenix
Pin-back button story: My friends and I went in on purchasing a button press a couple of years ago and cranked out some pretty fun buttons for ourselves and others. Making buttons by hand is super fun but WOW is it time consuming. Crazy respect to what you have going on here. (Thanks Joe!)
Upcoming projects: My wife and I have been working our way through creating art around the birds we've seen together on our travels over the years. I've been Illustrating the birds and she's been making adorable needle felted versions of them. We are finally starting to put the finishing touches on a book of our collected work. "Birds We've Seen With our Oculars and Binoculars" Vol. #1 North America - Coming soon!

Art has always been an integral part of Leah’s life. Ranging from a multitude of artistic talents she finds drawing, painting and printmaking the best means of expression for her work. Inspired by a rich and tragic family history, her work represents a deep-rooted emotional connection to life, family and bridging the gap between the past and present.
Leah is featured in the February 2014 issue:

Favorite creative tool: My Vandercook Letterpress.
Favorite snack: Pita chips and hummus.
Favorite toy (now or as a kid): Card games.
If you could be any character in fiction, whom would you be and why? Captain Jack Sparrow, because it seems like it would be a good time stealing other people's ships and "booty". Also he cheats death a few times which would be cool.
What's the strangest thing you've ever seen? A guy strip down naked and pee through a cone on a stuffed animal at an open mic night in San Francisco.
Favorite mythical creature: Falkor from "Neverending Story."
Upcoming projects: Opening art show "Just Ahead of Me" on Saturday, February 22nd from 6pm-10pm. At Viracocha, 998 Valencia St., San Francisco 94110
