Jesse Acosta was born in Baldwin Park, California in 1982. Four years later he was kidnapped by a pack of wild Sasquatch and forced to live in Spokane, Washington. He has been there ever since, drawing comics and painting. Aside from art, he is an avid backgammon player and tea aficionado. Jesse spends too much money collecting obscure movies and vintage Mexican comic books.
His work is featured in the June 2012 issue:
Source of inspiration: I love old movies, radio shows, 80s cartoons, and comic books. They have such a fun vibe, it’s hard not to be inspired by those alone. I’m also always excited to do unique art commissions for people, what they bring to me is generally a fun point of inspiration I can run with. I also love giving them the final work and seeing their expressions.
Favorite creative tool: Mechanical pencil
Favorite snack: Takis
Favorite toy (now or as a kid): Masters of the Universe Battle Armor Skeletor
Favorite creative gig: I love doing comic conventions. There’s a big thrill in meeting others who are excited about shared passions.
Dog or Cat? Dog. I own a 12 year old Shelty named Ashley, and she’s a huge part of my life.
What music are you listening to right now? Rodrigo y Gabriela has been playing on loop on my iPod for a few weeks now.
If you could be any character in fiction, whom would you be and why? Either the nameless time traveler from HG Well’s Time Machine or Spider-man 2099 from Marvel Comics. Super powers rival a time machine that could be used for historic research and science!
What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever seen? I work at a hospital, and many times I have to run specimens to the lab, and oh boy I’ve seen weird stuff. It’s very surreal to be carrying someone’s removed organ in a jar.
Favorite mythical creature: Quetzacoatl, a feathery dragon serpent sounds so cool. It also makes you wonder, because now paleontologists are saying many dinosaurs would have had feathers. Something to think about indeed!
Any button stories? I have an old army messenger bag I take with me whenever I’m drawing on the go, and it is littered with buttons. Some of my favorite buttons on the bag are Creature from the Black Lagoon, Grandpa Munster, and another button that says “Hecho en California.” Buttons are a fun way to promote and trade with friends. People always comment when they see the display of buttons on the bag, it’s a great conversation starter.
Upcoming Projects: Jesse will be at the Little Con of Horrors Halloween & Comic Show October 28, 2012 at Spokane Community College in Spokane, WA. He’s currently working on a couple mini comics for that and future events. He also has Emerald City Comicon (March 2013) in Seattle, WA on his tentative schedule.

Judd Nelson is a bad boy with a message in the movie The Breakfast Club. You can now sport a "Not Saved" button, just like Bender, on your short black mesh fingerless gloves. This 80s style is timeless, and perfect for a Halloween costume.
The movie is chock-full of good lines. See the entire Breakfast Club collection of buttons and magnets!
