Fix Your Dating Profile & Get the Connection You Want! Part 2: What Online Dating Apps Should I Use?

There are many options to choose from for online dating. I will cover a few that I’ve used here, and I also advise you to search online for “best dating apps for ______” and fill in the blank for your location or specific interest. Many people have already taken the time to write about dating in your area or how to meet someone who shares your interests (farming, beards, dating over 40, dating for single parents, etc.), so take advantage of that. Another way to approach this is to search for “best niche dating sites” and see if there are any that pique your interest.

• Bumble – This app that requires the woman to make the first move. You can upload six photos and give short answers to several prompts. You only see one profile at a time. Women like that guys can’t send the initial message, which cuts down on the unsolicited d**k pics (hey guys, don’t do that!). Swipe right to match, left to pass. Once a woman messages a guy, the communication can go back and forth unrestricted. There is a paid option to upgrade features.
• Hinge – Similar to Bumble in style, number of photos (six) and prompts. Either party can message at any time. You only see one profile at a time. No swiping here, you have to click the X to pass, or click on their picture or prompt to like. There is a paid option to upgrade features.
• OKCupid – Option to upload many photos, answer personality questions to generate match percentages, and create a more in-depth profile. You can see hundreds of profiles at once, which can be exciting, but it can also become exhausting. It’s a great place to search for specific interests, something that Bumble and Hinge don’t offer. The app tries to squeeze in all of the functionality of their website, but it's a bit much for a tiny phone screen. 

I suggest using more than one app at a time - pick one of the more generalized apps, and one niche app, and compare your experience. Test them all out if you like. There is no one right answer. Take the pressure off of yourself that you have to be perfect or do it in a certain way, and go with what feels right to you.
