The May 2012 issue of Button Club honors the 75th Birthday of the Golden Gate Bridge, and we are super excited to feature returning guest artist, Albert Campbell. First opened May 2, 1937, this lovely orange beauty is not only a symbol of the Bay Area, but also rather useful in connecting us to our neighbors.

If you are in San Francisco, check out the numerous celebrations happening all year long, hosted by the Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary Program. There will not be a repeat of “Bridgewalk 87″ (which is good, because the sheer number of people flocking to celebrate the 50th anniversary actually flattened the bridge), but the Golden Gate Festival on May 27th promises to be a fitting tribute.

Judd Nelson is a bad boy with a message in the movie The Breakfast Club. He wears a “Not Saved” button on his glove, and a couple more on his jacket. And since the 80′s are back in a big way, it’s perfectly fine to wear shorty black mesh gloves. Really. Would I lie to you?

The movie is chock-full of good lines, including “demented and sad, but social,” which of course has made it onto this button. More buttons in the works – what’s your favorite line?

There’s a hecka lot of hecksagons in the April 2012 issue of Button Club. (Why yes, that is proper English, thanks for asking).

Featuring Guest Artist Kristin Farr, from her original “Super Powers Hecksagon” painting. Inspired by Pennsylvania Dutch folk art, her bright takes on the hexagon can bring you good luck, magic, favorable weather and of course, super powers.

Usher in the Year of the Dragon with the February 2012 issue of Button Club. Returning Guest Artist Albert Campbell delights once again with his take on this fiery creature. According to the Chinese astrology, we might see some unexpected things in 2012. (This might be a sign that you should subscribe to Button Club, because then you will get something unexpected in the mail every month, therefore fulfilling your destiny, which will then lead to the realization of all of your heart’s dreams and desires… See how I turned that around?)

This month’s packaging includes envelopes that I made from Children’s Chinese Language Workbooks (picked up from the free pile at the library!). I learned a lot while folding and gluing these bad boys (mainly that I should really re-think making envelopes), but unfortunately I didn’t learn how to speak Chinese. But since I still know how to use Google, I can confidently say: Gong Hey Fat Choy!

The January 2012 issue of Button Club, features a victrola image from Guest Artist Travis Browning (also known as Travis B. Smith). Travis is an incredibly talented Tattoo Artist based in Madison, Wisconsin. When I first saw this image on my friend Ryan’s arm (he asked Travis to create this design and do his tattoo), I knew it would be perfect for a button.

Each button is housed in its own little record sleeve, mounted on sheet music. Lest you be worried that I destroyed more sheet music, let me assure you that this book of children’s music lesson plans was quietly despairing in the nether regions of a thrift store when I found it, and has now experienced the flush of new meaning by being re-purposed for Button Club. It’s true, Button Club is very benevolent like that.

This issue also launches the new and improved numbering system, as we are entering YEAR FOUR of Button Club!!! Wow, I can hardly believe it myself. So welcome to Volume 4, Issue 1.

Enjoy the gorgeous ocean blues in the December 2011 issue of Button Club, featuring guest artist Serena Mitnik-Miller. The button image comes from an untitled watercolor, that I have dubbed “droplets,” because that was easier than calling it “really awesome ocean-like blue drops, circles and waves.” The full piece is so beautiful, I had a hard time deciding which part to feature on the button!

Serena is also one of the owners of the General Store, and if you’re lucky, you can pick up one of her gorgeous prints there.

Button Club was super excited to include the artwork of Kristin Farr in the October 2011 issue. She is an incredibly talented artist whose bold and colorful style is a delight!
